The main reasons individuals volunteer are:

  • To learn new skills
  • To use professional skills
  • To increase self-confidence
  • To have a purpose, sense of achievement
  • To make a difference, a desire to help others
  • Use your skills to benefit a local organisation
  • To meet new people, have a sense of belonging in the community
  • Belief in the credit union ethos and movement
  • To increase employability

To become a volunteer, you must be a member of the credit union.

The next step of the process in becoming a volunteer of Lisduggan Credit Union is to submit your interest in writing to the Nominations Committee, either by email or letter, following which a member of the committee will be in contact with you.

All volunteers of the credit union are inducted through the Nomination Committee, which is a sub-committee of the Board of Directors.

Among the roles of this committee is to ensure there is an active level of volunteering, to provide training, including induction, for volunteers and to align volunteer skills to suitable positions within the credit union.

The amount of time commitment varies, depending on the volunteer’s role. Certain sub-committees require as little as two to three hours a month of your time, while the role of a credit union director involves a considerable time commitment. This will be discussed with you by the Nomination Committee.
